Signs that may point below the slab

The visible wet spot may not be the leak location

Water can move along vapor barriers, cracks, utility trenches, reinforcement, flooring systems, and the slab surface. Heat can spread beyond a hot-water line. Sound can transmit through concrete and connected piping.

That is why a single thermal image, damp area, or loud point should not be treated as the whole answer. Stronger findings come from agreement between several observations.
